The bike safe weekend on the 28/29 April 2007 as follows.
A bright and early Saturday morning we all meet at the bike safe centre in Cwmbran,
all sort of bikes, sport, sport tourers and cruisers. Riders from the midlands, the west country,
Cardiff and locals. After a sort introduction with the police bike riders we
all sat down for about 2 hours of theory about what can go wrong and to make
us better riders. We were then paired up into two's on ability and then introduced
to our police advanced rider for the weekend. We had a chat of were we off
to and how many miles we would cover. Then it was on the bikes and off we go.
After about 20 miles we pulled over to discuss our progress and road position.
Then it was onto the next 20 miles what a differance. We were starting to feel
the differance with our ability. The next stop was the waitrose supermarket in Abergavenny
for food and very nice it was to.Then it was onto the next 30
miles down to Tintern via the Wye valley fantastic and a stop at the abbey with
every one else what a sight, police and bikers every where all having fun.
After the next briefing we made our way back to Cwmbran. Once the last rider came
in we all sat down for a debrief about the day and any questions. What a day we
were all exhusted but all meet up for a pint in the evening. Sunday mornnig 08.00
early start, we all meet back in Cwmbran after small bhicup with a punture on one
of the bikes it was a talk about the day and off we go again making our way to
Sennybrige the long way, Stoping every so often for a progress brief. When we
got to sennybridge it was a well deserved coffee and progress chat. After about
1 hour back on the bikes and over the black mountains.FANTASTIC.Making our
way down to Buith Wells. Fuel Stop,And water for us.Then it was down to
abergavenny for food. After about six hours of riding it was back to Cwmbran
to debrief. Back in the bike safe center we had a talk from the police about crime
prevention. And then onto basic first aid and a presentation.
The Bike Safe weekend is fantastic value for money.
Where you tone your skills, improve your awereness and abilty and meet new friends.
It is must for new and expereienced riders alike.
Brian many thanks to south wales super bikes and the police for a
fantastic weekend. Best Regards Martyn Richards.
