Air Ambulance Rideout 2011 – Report

On Saturday 4th June 2011 over 100 motorcyclists came together at South Wales Superbikes to take part in the annual “Wales Air Ambulance Charity Rideout”. The event was organised by members of the Welsh Bikers Forum who can be found at www.welshbikers.co.uk

The Bikers taking part began to arrive at South Wales Superbikes at around 8-30am & by 10-30am everyone had registered. After a short breifing we set off towards Chepstow on the A48. We avoided motorways as there were a few learner riders on 125′s with us. From Chepstow we took the beautiful wye valley road to Monmouth then on to Abergavenny for a coffee stop at the bus station.

After a short break here we then headed off towards Brecon on the A40 taking in the breathtaking views of the Brecon Beacons. From Brecon it was on to Terry’s burger van on the A470 for another break & a chinwag giving everyone a chance to look at some of the bikes whilst they downed a burger.

Then onto the final leg taking in Penderyn & Rhigos mountain to Treorchy, over the Bwlch to Nantymoel & completing the route to the Haywain pub in Bridgend.

The weather was perfect with clear blue skies & warm sunshine at the start although the day got increasingly cloudy with some light rain at Treorchy just to liven things up.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the ride & the evenings entertainment at the Haywain with no major problems reported apart from a few sore heads the next morning.

The main objective though was to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance & at the last count we were heading for the £2300 mark. I will let everyone know the final figure when all monies are in.

Thanks to all who took part & particularly to those who gave up their time to organise it…….WELL DONE EVERYONE.
